Do you want to be kind?

kindnessEveryone wants to love and be loved. And the essence or may be the beginning of love is kindness. Every idea should have a practical aspect or application, otherwise it is useless. Practical kindness has four aspects.

– Act kindly, taking into account feeling of those whom your action may affect.

– Speak kindly, taking into account feeling of those who could hear your words, even by accident.

– Look at others kindly. Look is a fiery form of speech. It can hurt even more than loud words.

– Think with kindness. It is the highest form of friendliness and sincerity.

Let’s try to practice all four of these forms of kindness this week and watch our life change.

Non-violence means…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

There are so many types of violence and the utter most is taking life of another. But it only seems to be easy and straight forward. If we take the Sanskrit word it would be ahimsa – not causing harm/ hurt to others.

And if we accept that all living beings (animals included) can feel pain and fear, than the next logical step would be apply this non-violence principle to them too. As I say this, to my my mind come Greenpeace and Animal Rights fighters, that try to protect one type of the animals and their wellbeing, and then go for lunch and eat other type of animals(killed for them), that rings of hypocrisy  to me. The whole situation leaves me puzzled and amazed by their way of thinking and perception f the world.

And this is only physical level. There are two more levels of words and thoughts.

How many times each of us devoured/killed others by acid comments or harsh jokes. We will never know for those victims – self-esteem,hope, trusting so on are often die invisible.

The mind level is even more uncommon to be observed. There, inside, where there is no outward  control or witness of our actions (or so it seems) we really go wild and do anything and everything. But a thought is an energy and the energy that acts.

Now I have to say that controlling the body is relatively easy, controlling the speech is way more difficult, and controlling the mind is the most difficult. But it is possible, or at least  we will progress some IF WE TRY!

Optina Elders Prayer

No one would call me a Christian judging by attributes and paraphernalia, but the God by definition is only one for the whole world (does not matter by what name we address Him). So, this prayer of Optina elders materially belongs to Orthodox Christians, but spiritually it belongs in my heart. Here it is

Gratitude

gratitude

After talking to one of my coaching clients I realized how  very few people practice gratitude as part of their daily spiritual practice. It refers us to regularity again 🙂 .

We are taking/using so many things in this world – sunlight and the warmth, air, fragrances of the flowers, all the colors of the nature, abilities of our body. How often do we remember to give back our gratitude?

Some say, it just thoughts or words, and they don’t mean anything to the world. But we know that every thought is an energy, and words are even more powerful. Add to it that energy is never lost in this universe (who said this? Newton or, may be Einstein).

I invite you to create a Gratitude Diary. Take a journal, notebook or even use your planner and write what are you thankful for today. It may be just one word, does not have to be complicated.

Do it, and watch yourself and the whole world around become happier.

Regularity gives strength

regularity-gives-strength

Yes, indeed, and not only in bodily matters. It is true regarding spiritual strength too, may be even more so.

Only regularity of spiritual activity (whatever it may be – reading books, chanting mantras, meditating or praying) makes us strong in that particular aspect. In whatever area we do exercise, there we develop. So every spiritual activity is an exercise. It is a workout for the soul or the true self.

If we do something only once in a while, sporadically, it will give us the same kind of result. In spiritual activity we try to reach out of material world, and it s not a cheap thing  to achieve.

It has very mystical manifestation in the area of spiritually based moral behavior. If a person is always truthful, than he or she acquires the power of speaking the truth. It means that everything said becomes the truth. I think it is a real strength.
